Pinus wallichiana - Bhutan Pine

Commonly known as the Bhutan pine, Pinus wallichiana is large, evergreen tree growing to a maximum height of approximately 30 metres. As a young plant, its crown is broad but as it matures, it becomes more spreading and open. The bark is first smooth, later becoming flaky. Blue- green needles are long, soft, and thin, in groups of 5. They hang down from the tree, giving a softer look than other pine trees. Green cones arrive in summer and turn brown as autumn arrives.

Best grown in fertile, well drained soil but will appreciate more of a sheltered location. Will tolerate dry soil.
