Osmanthus heterophyllus - Holly Olive

Osmanthus heterophyllus, also known as the holly olive, is a large, evergreen shrub with a dense, dark green crown. Its leaves are leathery with spiky edges, similar to those of a holly; hence the common name. Small clusters of fragrant, white flowers appear in later summer and are followed by black blue berries in autumn. Best grown in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well drained soil. Tolerates hard pruning and is useful for shaping into hedges or topiary pieces.
