Malus hupehensis - Chinese Crab Apple
Originating in China, Malus hupehensis is a vigorous deciduous tree with a rounded crown, which broadens with age. Pink buds open to single white, fragrant flowers which creates a cloud of blossom through spring. The foliage is an attractive dark green before turning golden yellow in autumn. Small, red crab apples flood the tree in winter, providing a late source of food for wildlife.
Best grown in full sun or partial shade, in fertile, well-drained soil.
