Betula maximowicziana - Monarch Birch

Known as the Monarch Birch, Betula maximowicziana is a large deciduous tree, growing to a maximum height of 25 metres. Heart shaped leaves are bright green turning to a golden yellow in autumn. Its bark is very attractive, young stems are orange-brown with wide decorative lenticels. As the tree ages, the bark whitens and flakes in thin strips. Grows best in full sun, on moist, free draining soil.
