Prunus padus - Bird Cherry

Commonly known as the Bird Cherry, Prunus padus is a large deciduous tree native to Northern Europe. It is commonly found in hedgerows as it tolerates pruning well. Leaves are ovate with a toothed edge, first emerging green, turning yellow in autumn. Pendulant racemes of fragrant flowers bloom in late spring and are followed by bitter, black berries; birds and insects love them!

Prunus padus is an extremely tough tree, growing well in almost all soils in both full sun or partial shade.
