Magnolia Susan - Susan Magnolia
Magnolia susan is a cross between Magnolia liliflora ‘Nigra’ and Magnolia stellata ‘Rosea’. It belongs to the ‘Little Girl’ series of hybrid Magnolias developed at the U.S. National Arboretum in the mid-1950s.
Magnolia Susan is a stunning slow-growing, small upright tree, perfect for the smaller garden.
Magnolia Susan produces spectacular tulip shaped, fragrant flowers that are a deep purple-pink. The showy flowers bloom in April-May. As they flower slightly later than other Magnolias they usually escape potential frost damage.
The foliage is ovate, medium sized green leaves turning golden-yellow in the autumn months.
FACT: Magnolia Susan won RHS Award of Garden Merit.
FACT: The names of the Magnolias in the other ‘Little Girls’ series are: Ann, Betty, Jane, Judy, Pinkie, Randy, Ricki.
