Lagerstroemia indica - Crape Myrtle

Native to China, Lagerstroemia indica is an upright, deciduous tree growing to approximately 8 metres. It has a vase shaped, open crown with light brown grey, peeling bark, creating year-round interest. Long, ovate leaves are bronze when young, developing to a dark green. Conical panicles of flowers bloom between summer and autumn; the colour naturally varies between pink, white or purple. Seed pods also appear in autumn. Lagerstroemia indica has very few requirements but for best results, plant in a sunny, sheltered location.
