Ailanthis altissima - Tree of Heaven

Commonly known as the tree of Heaven, Ailanthus altissima is native to China and Taiwan. It is a quick-growing, deciduous tree with a rounded, open crown. Reaching heights of 15 metres, it has attractive green leaves that turn golden yellow in autumn. Large panicles of green white flowers are followed by winged seeds.

Ailanthus altissima will grow in almost all soils and is tolerant to air pollution, drought, strong winds and salt; although if planted on a dry, poor soil, the rate of growth will slow dramatically.
