Liquidamber styraciflua Worplesdon - Sweet gum
Liquidambar styraciflua Worplesdon is a cultivar of sweetgum with a broad pyramidal crown. Its bark is smoother than the species with more deeply cut, glossy green, maple-like leaves. It has an extremely uniformed crown and fantastic autumn colour, which flushes down the tree in brilliant shades of red and orange. Inconspicuous flowers bloom in April, followed by spikey capsules of fruit.
Best grown in fertile, well drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Tolerates both drought and short periods of flooding.
