Acer platanoides Drummondii - Variegated Norway Maple
Acer platanoides Drummondii is a sensantional form of the Norway maple. It is probably the most best known variegated tree, and boasts deeply green lobed leaves with a creamy margin. This light foliage works well to contrast against darker leaved trees in the garden and can also provide an excellent focal point.
Acer platanoides Drummondii is both vigorous and robust, and will be happy in most soil types. It will tolerate pollution and some drought, eventually to more than 12m high. They can be planted in full sun or light shade. If planted in heavy shade, the brightness of the leaf colour can be affected.
This tree can be prone to reversion, when some branches grow with pure green leaves without the variegation. These branches should be pruned out immediately to avoid them dominating the crown.
Acer platanoides Drumondii is available from Deepdale Trees as a standard tree between 12 and 40cm girth.
FACT: Acer platanoides Drummondii is prone to reversion. Reversion is when a branch of the tree starts to grow without variegation. If you notice this, just prune off any branches that have reverted.
