Punica granatum - Pomegranate
Also known as the pomegranate, Punica granatum is a rounded shrub growing to around 5 metres high. The dense crown in made of tangled branches and characterful twigs which have slight thorns. When mature, the bark flakes, revealing the creamy inner bark. Narrow leaves first emerge bronze in spring, turning glossy as they mature. Scarlet funnel shaped flowers bloom in summer and if hot enough, are followed by round red brown fruits known as pomegranates.
Best grown in a sheltered location with full sun.
