Native to northern China, Phellodendron amurense is a large tree with thick, corky grey bark. The compound leaves which are made up of between 9-13 leaflets, are dark green and shiny, turning golden yellow in autumn. Long yellow green flowers bloom in June and are followed by black fruits. A great tree for urban areas as it is tolerant to air pollution and has a great resistance against disease. Best grown in full sun or partial shade on fertile soil.
