Gleditsia triacanthos Sunburst - Golden Honey Locust

Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Sunburst’ is distinctively known for its vibrant, bright yellow leaves that emerge in spring. This moderately sized, deciduous tree stands out from the rest offering an unusual leaf colour and interesting branch formation.

During the spring the fresh leaves emerge as luminous yellow, later in the summer months developing to a lime green shade. As the autumn months draw in, the leaves change back to their bright yellow, often looking spectacular in the autumnal morning sun.

Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Sunburst’ is a spineless variety, and the leaves remain smaller the other species. Making it a brilliant tree for parkland. If being planted near paving this tree is great as it is deep rooting.

FACT: The species was named in honour of the German botanist and botanical gardens in Berlin, Gleditsch (1714-1786).
