Cydonia oblonga - Quince
Cydonia oblonga, the quince tree, is a small tree with a rounded, dense crown. Oval, dark green leaves emerge in Spring turning yellow in autumn. Small clusters of rosy white, fragrant flowers bloom in May and are followed by fruits. These are golden-green when ripe and have a sweet, citrusy smell. When raw, they taste slightly acid but if cooked or left to ripen, the flavour becomes sweeter; perfect for jams, jellies or pies.
Best grown in full sun on moist, well drained soil.
