Carpinus japonica, also known as the Japanese hornbeam, is a spreading, deciduous tree with a bushy, vase shaped form. it has narrow, green leaves that turn golden yellow in autumn; often holding these leaves through winter until new growth appears. It has conspicuous yellow catkins, paired with small red fruits. Best grown in full sun with moist, well-drained soil.
