Acer triflorum - Threeflower Maple

Acer triflorum is a slow growing, beautiful tree with exceptional features. The warm ashy stem peels in long strips to reveal a bronzed-orange inner bark, even at an early age.

Its low maintenance means it is perfect for any courtyard or city garden. It prefers moist, well drained soil making it suitable for containers and also patios.

The three-flower maples formation is dependent on where it is situated. If placed in full sun, it will grow in a rounded shape with compact foliage. However, if it is in a more shaded area, its form will be more upright with spreading branches.

Acer triflorum blooms in spring with greenish/yellow clusters of three, hence the name, three-flower maple. The leaves of this tree also are an indicator of its name as they split into three long, narrow pieces.

FACT: Acer triflorum, the three-flowering maple is a species native to the north eastern hills of China and Korea. It was first introduced to the UK in 1923.

FACT: It is rare in Europe as it produces very little viable seed. However, once it is established, it is very low maintenance.
