Acer campestre
(Field Maple)
Acer campestre is a small to medium sized tree which is native to England. Dark green, 5 lobed leaves turn brilliant golden yellow in autumn. Small yellow flowers in spring, winged fruits and brown corky bark also give good interest at other times of year.
Acer campestre is a highly versatile and underrated variety which can be grown and trained into many different forms. At Deepdale Trees it is available as a standard tree up to 90cm girth, and as a multistem, umbrella and pleached plant. We also have some beautiful 2m high x 1m wide instant hedging units.
Contrary to popular opinion, Acer campestre is not just a wildlife friendly hedging plant. When trained into an umbrella or pleached form, it takes on a fantastic architectural quality which allows it to be used in formal schemes, and even show gardens.
